INDOOR FLYING SEASON

We have now finalised the Indoor Flying arrangements for this winter. As last year the venue is Montsaye Sports Centre. The booking is for 5.30 to 7.30 pm on Thursday nights. There is an one hour sesion on the 17th Dec and then 15 weeks of the full 2 hours starting from 7 th Jan 2010. The fees will be the same as last year working out at approx £3.00 per session paid in two halves at the begining and half way through. The more people that sign up then the lower the cost as this is a non profit making venture and only sets out to recover the fees. All those interested can contact me or Carl Ward or just turn up at the venue on the night. We look forward to seeing as many of you as possible.

2 Day Event Report 2009

Hi all,

I would like to thank all those who attended the 2 day event this year we had a good turn out, and all the members at Corby club who helped to put this event on. The weather gods were with us this year, we were graced with warm sunshine light winds and blue sky. Saturday saw a lot of good flying with display pilots performing some brilliant aerobatic displays. All pilots were making the most of the weather and it was constant flying all day.

Day 2 Sunday

The good weather continued for us and the first of the competitions the A comp started at approx 11.30am. This was flown over 1 round with 4 set manoeuvres, we had a good turn out with some good flying from some pilots who had only passed their a test a short while ago. In third place was Lee Drewnicki second was Tony King from the Ogees club and in first place was Daimon Mcmaster

The B comp was up next again 4 set manoeuvres flown over 1 round so engines had to be on song as there is no second chances, in first place Lee Waples, second Brian Cooper both from the Ogees club and third place was tied between, Chris Harle and Carl Ward both from the Corby club.

We had a short break for lunch then went straight into the pre 1950 scale aerobatic comp. This was flown freestyle to music and for 4 minutes. We had a variety of aeroplanes several Spitfires, Mustang, Me108 to name a few. To see so many Spitfires in the air even though they were only models was nostalgic and the evocative shape of this icon left a lump in the throat, as the Spitfire was a symbol of hope and defiance in those dark days of 1940. Some nice flying was done by all competitors but the eventual winner was Brian Cooper flying a Kyoto 72 inch Spitfire powered by a 28cc petrol engine, second place was Graham Boycott flying a YT International 72 inch Spitfire and in third place Gary Pope flying a 72 inch YT International P51D Mustang.

The final comp was the aerobatic freestyle flown to music for 4 minutes, again the standard of flying was high and flown to a variety of music. The winner of this comp was the same person who won it in 2007 and probably would have won it last year 2008 should the weather have allowed it to go ahead. So the winner is Lee Wales from the Ogees club, second place was Brian Cooper again from the Ogees club, and in third place was Carl Ward who put his aircraft through some very nice flying.

So to sum up, the event went well the weather was lovely the standerd of flying was high and there were no accidents. I hope everyone had a good time, thanks to Richard Russell who did yet another good job on the burger stall and for doing such a good job of cutting the grass, to Paul webb, Mick Bailey, Daimon McMaster, Carl and Darren Ward for putting up the new tent, to the pilots from the Ogees club who always come and put on some brilliant flying displays and took most of the silver ware too, to the IMAC pilots who once again put on some brilliant flying displays and if I have missed anyone please accept my apologies. I wish everyone safe flying and hope to see you all next year.

Graham Boycott

More pictures from the event can be found here.
Thanks to Tony for the fantastic pictures.

Indoor Flying 2009

As discussed at the AGM we have been endeavouring to find a suitable hall for indoor flying. After a demonstration a Montsaye Community Hall we have been offered the opportunity of a block booking for 10 weeks on Thursdays 5.30 till 7.30. As 5.30 is so early they have agreed to only charge from 6.00. This will be £41.25 per week. As was agreed at the AGM this will spread out over the number of members that want to take part. If we get 10 then it will be £ 41.25 membership which is very good value at only £4.00 per night. The more members join the indoor flying the cheaper it will be. This is our first attempt and if successful we will try for a more suitable time for next winter. Any body that is interested can contact me on email at polyman2@aol.com.
We would hope to start on 29 th January if we can’t get it all in place for the 22nd. This offer is open to non-members as long as you have BMFA insurance by showing a current membership card.

Happy new Year.

Two reminders for the start of 2009.

1. If you have not yet renewed your club membership you are not insured and so cannot fly.

2. Club rule 52 comes into full effect. All members that do not currently have a BMFA 'A' Certificate or higher cannot fly un-supervised. You will still be able to fly providing you have either a 'B' certificate holder watching you or a club instructor.

3X Video's to watch from - Operation Market Garden - WW2 display

Close in action - not sure if you can hear on the video, the sound of the vortices's after some of the close passes.

Filmed at Spanhoe Airfield near the Corby, where the Corby & District Model Flyers Club of Northamptonshire fly. They were flying up the patch Sunday afternoon of the 14th. Even though their patch is the other side of the airfield they vacated the airspace when the big boys turned up, as did the Kite, however he was up in the air when the Sabre had 'bugged out'.

Enjoy

This was part of the show Operation Market Garden - Spanhoe Airfield near Corby 13th - 14th September 2008. Arranged by The 315th Historical Society -9th Ninth Airforce-

Hope you enjoy, seen you flying over the other side.

2 Day Event Summary

The 2 day event this year was unfortunatly disrupted by the weather, we had drizzly rain on Saturday and high winds on the Sunday, so the competitions and display flying were all cancelled on the Sunday. The only good thing about that is we still have the trophys !!.
However all was not lost, as on the Saturday the drizzly rain stopped mid afternoon allowing a few hours for flying. We had YT International display team put on a good display with their warbirds ME 109s, myself and Mark Owen went up after they came down and flew our Spitfires to the Battle of Britain music and Franny also flew his new Extra. YT also displayed a variety of other models, unfortunatly their september sea fury was damaged due to technical problems.
Imac team displayed their models to their usual high standerds. The lads from Wellingborough club Lee Waples and Brian Cooper also put their models through their paces, remembering the weather was not good for flying we also had very low visibility, 100 feet up and your model would vanish so the standered of flying had to be good.
Malcolm flew his YT International Tiger Cat which looked superb and had a real presence in the air, unfortunatly on his second flight one of the engines stopped causing it to come down in the field which did some damage to the aircraft.
Dispite the weather we had a good turn out of people and the burger stall did a good trade so i would like to say thanks to Richard Russell as he was very busy through out the day. Thanks also go out to the trade stands who turned up,YT International, Imac flyers, the lads from Wellingbourough flying club and everyone who flew trying to make the most of a damp / dull day and the spectators who turned up.
Thanks also must go to the following members of the corby flying club as without their help the event would not get off the ground. Daimon, Jim, Mick Bailey, Chris Harle, Franny, Carl Ward, Martin Scott, Paul Webb, R Russell, Frank Seymore who could not attend, Mark Owen and the 2 young lads which i have forgotten their names. If i have missed anyone out please accept my apologies.
Lets hope next year the weather will be kinder for us.

    Thank you all again
    Graham Boycott

Jim has uploaded a number of photos taken from the event here. Feel free to add your own photos.

June Funday Results
Climb & Glide
This time the climb and glide was done a little differently. Due to the low clouds the climb time was reduced to prevent the loss of any models. We also has a mass launch. Everyone lined up on the patch and headed skywards together, when the time was up everyone had to stop thier engines and glide to the patch as slow as possible. Below are the results. Note that despite not competely stopping his engine Daimon still managed to come last!

2 Day Event Report

The weather stayed fine for us over the 2 days, we had some good pilots turn up and put a show on for us on the Saturday, competitors were going through their routines and there was some fun flying as well on Saturday.
Sunday started with the A and B comp together, where we saw some good flying from all entrants, the set manoeuvres were easy ones but hard to do well. The Scale Comp followed after a short break, once again there was some nice flying by all, we had a variety of planes,Mustang, Me 109, Spitfire, By Plane and a Yak some competitors flew to music which was a nice touch. This was followed by the Aerobatic Freestyle comp which again some pilots flew to music and some brilliant displays were performed.
To round off i think we all had a good 2 days pilots and spectators alike, the burger stall was busy as was the officials.
I would like to thank everyone for their help and support, the sponsors for the cups which looked a treat, and for all of the pilots from all clubs for taking part in the competitions.
We hope to have the 2 day event again next year and an exciting time again, (and hope fully to win back some of the Trophys).
